Her Story

It began with borrowed hands and a lot of patience.

Long before there were brides, there were relatives and family friends who lent Mehnaz their hands — and their patience — while she practised.

She studied designs wherever she could find them. She watched every instructional video and tutorial available, paused it, rewound it, and tried again. She learned how a cone should feel in the hand, how pressure changes a line, how a paisley curves differently on a palm than on a wrist. None of it came from a certificate — all of it came from doing.

Slowly, the practice hands became real occasions: a cousin's engagement, a neighbour's Eid, a friend's wedding. And with each one, Mehnaz's work grew more confident, more detailed, more her own.

Today Mehnaz works as a professional Mehendi artist in Kolkata — specialising in bridal Mehendi, wedding and event Mehendi, and customised designs — in styles that include Bridal, Paisley, Mehndi Caricature, Zardosi and Reverse Mehndi.

Why She Teaches

Creating the opportunity she never had

Because Mehnaz learned alone, she understands exactly where beginners get stuck — the shaky first lines, the uneven filling, the fear of a real hand after weeks of paper.

That understanding became Mehnaz Mehendi Classes: a space where students learn from the basics toward professional artistry, practise on real hands, get honest feedback, and — importantly — find a circle of fellow artists to grow and work alongside. Many of her students have gone on to work together professionally on events.
